Louisiana State University USA Nadine Carter Russell Endowed Chair in the College of Art & Design
The College of Art & Design inaugurated its first chair, the Nadine Carter Russell Endowed Chair, in 1998. Over the past 6 years the Nadine Carter Russell Endowed Chair has brought creative individuals of extraordinary talent to LSU College of Art & Design in the fields of design and the fine arts. The appointment of a Russell Chair for a one semester residency may occupy any of the four programs of the college -- Architecture, Art (art history, ceramics, graphic design, jewelry/metalsmith, painting & drawing, photography, printmaking and sculpture), Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. For the academic year 2005-06 the appointment will be made to the Interior Design Department.
We seek a nationally prominent artist, designer, or scholar who has a significant record of creative and/or scholarly activity related to the field of design. Recipients of the Russell Chair are expected to conduct a public lecture, teach an interdisciplinary studio or seminar, and undertake research/creative activity.
Selection of the 2005-06 Russell Chair will be based upon the potential the selected candidate will augment the design discourse in the College, and evidence of a record of original work that expands the discipline of design.
Louisiana State University is the Flagship University of the Louisiana system. It has been designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral-Research-Extensive University. Located in Baton Rouge, LA, LSU is convenient to New Orleans, the Gulf coast, French Louisiana, and Houston. The College of Art and Design houses the design disciplines and the fine arts. The College offers both undergraduate and graduate programs and is home to 800 students and has 80 full-time faculty.
Required Qualifications: nationally prominent artist, designer, or scholar who has a significant record of creative and/or scholarly activity with an emphasis related to interior design issues. A terminal degree in a design or art related discipline and/or outstanding professional experience, good interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellence in teaching required.
