Third International Bauhaus Award 2004The 3rd International Bauhaus Award will go to urban development projects that address new spatial relationships of "Transit spaces": transnational agglomerations without a city, "diasporic public spheres" as de-nationalised spaces in urban centres and areas where informal economies intersect. The ideas developed and the manner of their implementation should relate to innovative designs in urban development and thus to the shaping of the processes and changes that have been described.
"Transit spaces" is a metaphor for new urban spaces, for pioneers of globalisation, for laboratories that are characterised by new dimensions of abrupt change, uncertainty and insecurity. Originally the term was used to describe airport lounges, waiting rooms in railway stations or subways - places that are only ever in temporary use and are inherently associated with flexibility and mobility.
Entries for the Bauhaus Award can be submitted by designers and academics born after 23 October 1964. Projects can be entered by individuals or groups.
Deadline is 20 August 2004.
