 Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within OutwardFlorida Southern College's long-hidden treasure trove of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings-the largest single-site collection of the architect's work in the world-is ready for a new dawn.Known collectively as "Child of the Sun," the 12 structures will be featured in the upcoming exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. In the context of Wright's other projects, the show, "Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward" - May 15 through August 23, will feature photos and drawings of Wright's one-of-a-kind master plan. Coincidentally, an ambitious restoration effort is currently under way on Wright's college campus. The project occupied Wright for 21 years, from 1938 until his death in 1959, but it all began with a simple telegram sent by then-president Dr. Ludd Spivey to Wright in Taliesin West: "Desire conference with you concerning plans for great education temple in Florida." Eager to realize his dream of masterminding an entire city, Wright designed 18 buildings for Spivey, 12 of which were built. To save money, five of the buildings were constructed by the students themselves in exchange for tuition. Wright's centerpiece, a massive, 160-foot-diameter, 74-jet fountain called the Water Dome, was too technically advanced for its time.  RIBA Launches New Associate Member ClassThe Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) today launches a new membership class called Associate Member, which will replace the current Graduate class.This change has been implemented to provide the best possible support for a wider range of members. Unlike the existing Graduate class, Associate Member applicants do not need to be working towards Part III (necessary for Chartered Architect status), therefore widening access to more professionals in the industry. RIBA Associate Members will have a number of specifically tailored RIBA support services to help their career development, moving them towards RIBA Chartered Membership. Existing Graduate members will automatically be moved to the new Associate Member category. "The new Associate Member class is a great opportunity to enable all members who have an interest and qualification in architecture to engage with the profession and enjoy the benefits of RIBA membership," said Richard Brindley, Executive Director of RIBA Professional Services.  RIBA Gulf Chapter Student Ideas CompetitionThe RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Gulf Chapter is launching an architectural student competition open to students residing in the States of the Gulf Cooperation Council.The results of the competition will be announced at a high profile ceremony to coincide with the formal launch of the RIBA Gulf Chapter on 21st October at the British Embassy Abu Dhabi. Supported by the UKTI, the launch will be a fully multi-disciplinary event, engaging with key clients, consultants and contractors that influence the market for the built environment. The objective of the competition is to explore new visions and develop design proposals for 'the city'. The competition will set students the challenge of re-addressing the street culture and its human activities to the urban context. Students will be asked to choose a site in an urban context which they feel is in need of rejuvenation, and come up with ideas and concepts representing the modern interpretation of the Souk.  AIA Introduces 2030 Commitment Program to Reach Goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2030The American Institute of Architects 2030 Commitment is a voluntary program for AIA member firms and other entities in the built environment that asks these organizations to make a pledge, develop multi-year action plans, and implement steps that can advance AIA's goal of carbon neutral buildings by the year 2030.Architects are confronting the fact the buildings are the largest single contributor to the production of greenhouse gases and almost half of the total annual production.
