Label Cepezed Awarded with BNA Cube 2008

Cepezed Awarded with BNA Cube 2008

The Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA) has awarded cepezed architects with the BNA Cube 2008 for its complete body of work.

The BNA Cube is the highest decoration of the institute and arguably the most prestigious Dutch architecture prize.

It is presented for exceptional merits within Dutch architecture.

The jury is unanimously convinced that cepezed is entitled to the prize and speaks highly of cepezed's excellent professional skills and the consistent quality of it's works.

With that, the panel of adjudicators emphasizes that cepezed never deploys the technical and innovative approach for which it is known solely for the sake of technique and innovation itself, but always for the benefit of high architectural quality.

According to the jury, cepezed's modern interpretation of the notion of the master builder compels admiration in particular.

Within this interpretation, the office does not distinguish architecture from construction.

It uses integral design methods that have brought the architects an enormous knowhow and competence in fields such as the organization of the construction process, innovation and the development of construction components; all exerted for the purpose of architectural excellence.

Ateliermob Wins the Competition for Mouras New Cemetery

Ateliermob Wins the Competition for Moura's New Cemetery

Ateliermob (with Atelier Perspectivas, Betar Estudos, Energia Tecnica and Ana Filipa Ramalhete) won the public competition for the new Moura's Cemetery.

This new cemetery will be plotted on a 5.16 ha area, on the limit of this Alentejo's city.

The winning proposal design is structured upon one long fence wall, that divides the cemetery from the national road.

Throughout its extension, it gets larger to embrace the required functional spaces as one chapel or the wake rooms.

Taking advantage of the topographic characteristics of the site, the streets will be design as incisions on the ground.

Coffins and tumbs will help to construct this deformations.

With this solution we will have a more cosy and singular area for individual rituals and the sumptuous social ranks of traditional cemeteries will be subverted.

360 Innovative Living by FAK3

360: Innovative Living by FAK3

Johnny Wong and Miho Hirabayashi of FAK3 have created a home in Hong Kong for Joanne Ooi, creative director of Shanghai Tang, that took the concept of open multi-functional spaces to a whole new realm.

Wong and Hirabayashi have developed an iconic elliptical entertainment cabinet that can rotate 360-degrees, which sits as the central focus to the apartment.

On its two longer sides, it houses a set of keyboards and a customized study desk; the two shorter sides accommodated storage and a television.

Fitted with industrial strength bearings that can support up to two tonnes, the walnut wooden cabinet rotates with the push of just one finger.

Its off-centred axis means as the cabinet moves, its content and form shifts the room's perceived spatial configuration to give each poche zone its own character.

Colour plays a large part in 360's design. The kitchen is finished in a brilliant cobalt blue. One bathroom is clad in a soft pink and white marble while the other sparkles with crystals and jade. The black shower curtain is custom made and features pastoral images of Guilin.

To maximise the play area, the son's cheerful yellow bedroom features steps up to a bunk bed with storage, closet and desk below.

In contrast to the large fluid space in the living area, the bedrooms and bathrooms are orthogonal and strictly delineated.
