Morgan Lovell Launches Sustainable Office Design Seminar

Morgan Lovell Launches Sustainable Office Design Seminar

Office transformation specialist Morgan Lovell has organised a seminar designed to inspire business leaders to "go green."

The company is inviting property, facilities and business managers to its own headquarters in Noel Street, London, to show how a traditional 1960s office building can be transformed for the 21st Century.

"Sustainable Office Design and Fit Out: A Case Study" takes place on Wednesday, May 14.

The seminar is designed for businesses faced with incorporating sustainability into office design and fit out projects or who are uncertain about how to meet the challenge of "green" regulations and standards.

Morgan Lovell is using its own headquarters as a real-life case study after carrying-out its own recent refurbishment.

Holly Kaiser Birmingham Architect Lives the Green Life

Holly Kaiser: Birmingham Architect Lives the Green Life

Holly Kaiser planned to pedal extra hard this week in celebration of Earth Day.

The Birmingham architect is living the green life, starting with her studio at 2151 Cole St.

A modified stationary bike in the corner of her office, connected to a generator and battery, can generate enough "human power" to charge her computer and cell phone.

"It produces enough energy to run my computer for 20 hours," said Kaiser, 39.

"My next investment is to install flexible solar screens on the west side of the building that will charge enough batteries to run all the computers in the office."

Successful Regeneration Needs Artistic Imagination

Successful Regeneration Needs Artistic Imagination

Too much development today lacks imagination and needs the creative, lateral thinking of artists, according to a new report from CABE and Arts & Business.

Artists & Places explores how involving artists in regeneration projects can improve their quality.

The report draws on the lessons of PROJECT, a two-year initiative to transform the role of artists in placemaking.

PROJECT saw artists directly involved in schemes from West Lothian to Hackney and Artists & Places features six case studies demonstrating the contribution which artists can make.

Artists bring an innate curiosity to the project and investigate aspects of the local environment that the design team may not be engaging with.

This can help identify what is truly authentic about a place, and help market it in a distinctive way.

At Warwick Bar in Birmingham, sound artists Liminal organised a 'sound walk' to 'listen' to the landscape around the regeneration site.

Mike Finkell of ISIS Waterside Regeneration said Liminal's involvement had a fundamental impact on the company, and helped them exploit the potential of arts and culture to add value to their projects.

But Artists & Places is also a frank appraisal which shows the barriers to creative influence, whether that is being involved too late in the process or regulations hindering creative solutions.
