![]() Laboratorio di Architettura by Design Diffusion EdizioniLaboratorio di Architettura is the proposal from OFARCH for the forthcoming edition of Made Expo 2008.The exhibition will be held in the Fair quarters of Milan's Pero-Rho between 5-9 February 2008. Laboratorio di Architettura aims to promote an updated interpretation of the directions taken by contemporary architecture and the world of building construction at the beginning of this third millennium. It will highlight the research into ideal solutions to guarantee comfort and sustainability for the planet and its guests. An area of 400 sq.m. will be the platform for the presentation of projects by eight architects / designers. In collaboration with the companies that manufacture materials and systems for architecture they will describe the ideas behind the projects and the components used in the world of building construction. The topic will cover the Energy and technological resources finalized to wellness and will be presented within this area of research, supervised by Franco Mirenzi in collaboration with Fortunato D'Amico. Nicholas Bewick, Paolo Bodega, Giulio Ceppi, Enzo Eusebi, Massimo Facchinetti, Enrico Frigerio, Luca Moretto, Terry Pecora, are just some of the professionals invited to make a contribution. ![]() Urban Laboratory: New Centre of Excellence to Help Shape the Future of GlasgowGlasgow City Council, the Lighthouse, and the Mackintosh School of Architecture at Glasgow School of Art are joining forces to create a centre dedicated to helping shape the city's future development.The new venture will create a community that aims to become a world-leader in the advanced practice and research in urban place-making. It will allow experts in various fields to come together to ensure that future development in the city serves the needs of Glasgow's citizens in terms of social justice, health, education and all other aspects of civic government. The "urban laboratory" will give civic leaders new and creative ways of drawing on the expertise of a whole range of specialists when developing policies aimed at improving the lives of Glaswegians. The laboratory is setting a world-standard in cross-disciplinary teaching and research in place-making, and will enhance Glasgow's reputation as an international leader in design. Place-making is a vision for regeneration and development that extends the horizons of urban design, town-planning, and architecture to include both social and economic policy-making. Above all it is a discipline that puts public participation at the heart of the process, making sure that communities have a voice in the design, delivery and management of new and regenerated built environments. ![]() Arts Space of the FutureArts Space of the Future competition, set by RIBA London and Arts Council England, asked London architects and students to consider the shape and form of future arts spaces.With changes in technology and rapidly altering notions of what culture actually is, including ideas about making the arts a less elitist affair, architects were encouraged to ask fundamental questions: What kind of arts space will be relevant to future generations? How can spaces better reflect the nature of the arts being produced within them? Do art spaces need to be transformed into something quite new? ![]() The Building Futures GameBuilding Futures, the Royal Institute of British Architects' (RIBA) think tank with CABE and architectural practice The AOC, today launches the "The Building Futures Game" at an event in Daventry, Northamptonshire.The Building Futures Game presents an accessible and innovative new approach to tackling the big issues involved in town planning and development. Essentially, The Building Futures Game is a form of scenario planning. Participants work through a lively and interactive process of "playing out" a range of possible futures, generating a number of possible resolutions. Working through this process, participants are given a chance to really get to grips with the fundamental issues affecting town planning in their towns and cities The event features a live game playing exercise based on a real proposed retail scheme for Daventry by Henry Boot developers and MCA architects with the West Northants Development Corporation (WNDC). The proposals will impact greatly on the town centre area and form part of a wider strategy for the town's regeneration and future growth.
