AIA Urges Congress to Consider Green Stimulus Proposals

As Congress and the Administration discuss additional proposals to stimulate the nation's economy, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is advocating green incentives for homeowners, building owners, small businesses, retail establishments and education facilities.

Details of the provisions where sent to Congress in a letter dated January 24, 2008.

In 2005 the AIA adopted position statements to promote sustainable design and resource conservation to achieve a minimum reduction of fifty percent of the current consumption level of fossil fuels used to construct and operate buildings by the year 2010.

AIA senior director, federal affairs, Andrew Goldberg, Assoc.

AIA, said, "Because the design and construction industry accounts for nearly one in ten dollars of United States GDP and creates millions of jobs while supporting millions of small businesses, the AIA believes that Congress and the president should help this vital sector put people back to work and provide solutions lower energy costs."

London Milan 2008: The Dual City Summer Sessions

Students and new designers from around the world are once again invited to enrol onto the London Milan Summer Sessions for four weeks of design tuition and experimentation in world-renowned institutions.

Now in its third year this unique collaboration between Central Saint Martins in London, Domus Academy and NABA in Milan enables students to study in two of Europe most inspiring cities taking complementary courses in the field of Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Product Design, Event Design and Art Curating.

Last year nearly 150 students from 37 different countries joined the sessions.

Beginners courses run 30 June - 25 July 2008 and are hands-on practical courses suitable for beginners and portfolio builders, perfect for students planning on applying for further study or trying something new.

Each subject area requires studying in London and Milan.

Suitable for students who have completed at least two years of a degree in a related subject or recent graduates working in the field who need a boost.

Students may enrol for both sessions across London and Milan, or choose just one course in either city.

Cambridge based workplace interior and fit out specialist breathegroup has added two high quality strings to its bow with the appointments of two new interior design professionals, Katy Grimshaw and Natalie Wells.

Both women boast a varied range of talents, with Katy Grimshaw's previous experience including work in the housing and leisure sectors, plus completed work for Saunders Boston Architects and eco housing company Baufritz, whilst Natalie Wells brings fresh ideas on interior design to the company, as well as particular expertise in the latest specialist design and visual illustration to help bring interior design ideas to life and produce technical work to support specified budgets.

Natalie and Katy both hold degrees in interior design and have already proven their flair for providing creative solutions for several of breathegroup's clients since the joining the team.
