City Park, Glasgow, recently adapted and refurbished by Scottish practice Cooper Cromar for the Elphinstone Group, picked up the BPA Placemaking Award at MIPIM in Cannes last week.
The strength and number of testimonials and the appropriateness of the refurbishment to community and market needs impressed the judges.
Commenting, Ruth Slavid, AJ Editor, online and Special Projects said, "This is a project that has been completed successfully at a level that is appropriate to its setting.
While the restoration of the historic fabric has been nothing short of impeccable, the rest of the sit-out and recladding is serviceable rather than top of the range - which is doubtless a wise decision taken with regard to the level of rents that the project could attract."

The architecture studio A-cero, directed by Joaquin Torres, presents a new project for a residential tower in Dubai's Madinat Al Arab district, a sector designated to become the new downtown and business district of this vibrant city.
The new 20 floor tower is located on the coastline, in a zone called Dubai Waterfront, in front of the bigger of the famous artificial islands known as The Palms, that have been created on the emirates' coast.
The building is made of concrete, glass and steel, and have the broken aspect of surrounding desert's crystals, like the one known as the desert rose; a sculptural idea taken as starting point for the design, something common to all the firm's works.
The project's program includes two underground parking floors, a commercial centre occupying the atrium and 18 floors reserved to residential use: 10 duplex, two of them with a surface of 500 m2, and 96 apartments with distributions of one, two and three bedrooms.
All the apartments have terraces with spectacular views over the coast and share common zones with gym, solarium, swimming pool and leisure areas.

Students residing in eight Georgia counties that previously were academically underserved by a public institution of higher learning, are enjoying a new, 100-acre community college campus that replaces an east-of-Atlanta storefront in a former shopping plaza.
Georgia Perimeter College (GPC), a metro Atlanta multi-campus, two-year college that is the third largest institution of the University System of Georgia, opened the doors to its new campus in Newton County's city of Covington last summer with the first building, a 104,000-square-foot structure.
Building 1 is a flexible, all-in-one campus facility, designed to enable some of its functions to move to other buildings and others to expand as the Newton Campus grows.
Construction on a second student service-focused building began in December, and school officials anticipate it will be ready for classes at the start of spring semester 2009.
Lord, Aeck & Sargent served as the design architect for both phases and as architect of record for the first building.
The Architecture Group served as associate architect on the initial phase and is architect of record for the second phase.
Lord, Aeck & Sargent - in collaboration with The Architecture Group; Paulien Associates; and Hughes, Good, O'Leary & Ryan - led the campus planning effort for developing architectural strategies for the overall campus master plan.
