Panini Design Contest: Redesign the Bank Branch of the Future

Panini S.p.A., a Turin-based international company active in the payment system and imaging field, always attentive to developments in the fields of design and innovation, has organised "Share a New Vision", a contest to redesign the bank branch of the future.

A contest open to designers, architects and creative artists from all over the world who are invited to rethink the interior of a bank in terms of innovation, interaction and multichanelling.

Organised as part of Torino 2008 World Design Capital, the aim of this contest is to provide an answer as regards needs for interaction, relationship and involvement that will be features of banks in the future.

The aim of the "Share a New Vision: redesign the bank branch of the future" contest is to "rethink" spaces intended for branch customers in terms of their functionality, ergonomics and design.

A bank branch is a complex system that includes transactions concerning the exchange of documents, information and data, but above all relationships to provide services and build loyalty.

The branch is, in fact, a key factor in a bank's communication strategy.

From a strategic standpoint it represents the "moment of truth" for financial institutions, one of the essential elements of the bank's multichannelling and communication with customers, the focus of all efforts underlying the various services offered.

RIBA Awards 2008 Call for Entries

RIBA Awards 2008: Call for Entries

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is once again on the lookout for potential RIBA Stirling Prize winners.

Following on from the success of David Chipperfield's Museum of Modern Literature in Germany in October, the search has begun to find the best examples of new British architecture.

Practices up and down the country are urged to submit projects of architectural excellence into the 2008 RIBA Awards scheme.

The RIBA awards programme, supported by The Architects' Journal, is largely unchanged following the successful introduction of a new pyramid structure in 2007.

RIBA Awards are judged and presented locally, with the RIBA National Awards judged and presented nationally.

The next level is the RIBA National Awards which are judged and presented nationally.

The RIBA Stirling Prize shortlist is selected following further visits to winners of the RIBA Awards and of RIBA European Awards for buildings in the rest of the EU.

From 2008, the RIBA Stirling Prize goes back to its roots as a "built or designed in Britain" prize, for which only RIBA Award-winning buildings in the UK by RIBA Chartered members and International Fellows, OR buildings in the rest of the EU by practices whose principal office is in the UK, will be considered.

The move will strengthen the British connection with the prize while maintaining the competitive edge that buildings in Europe have always provided.

Frank Gehry to Design Serpentine Gallerys Next Pavilion

Frank Gehry to Design Serpentine Gallery's Next Pavilion

Frank Gehry, whose design for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao spurred a cultural revival in the northern Spanish city, will be the next architect of the Serpentine Gallery's temporary pavilion, the gallery said.

Every year since 2000, the Serpentine, a former tearoom located in London's Hyde Park, asks an architect or artist to put up a provisional structure that serves as a venue for evening talks and events, and, by day, as a cafe.

Previous pavilion architects Zaha Hadid and Rem Koolhaas have, like Gehry, been winners of the Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Drinks with a Designer Gordon Kipping at Issey Miyake NYC

Drinks with a Designer: Gordon Kipping at Issey Miyake, NYC

Come to a tour and discussion with emerging architect, Gordon Kipping, at Miyake Madison, the fashion boutique he recently designed for the Japanese fashion designer, Issey Miyake.

Following the program, you are invited to mingle with other designers and the architect at the Phoenix Park bar.

Kipping will discuss the design and construction of the store and the relationship between architect and client.

Previous to Miyake Madison, Kipping and G TECTS executed the design for Miyake's Tribeca boutique, which was designed in collaboration with Frank Gehry, who was author of the sculpture.

Here's your chance to get a rare and revealing comparison of the processes leading to these two very different designs.

Drinks with a Designer is open to all young designers five years or less out of school; whether you are a graphic, industrial, or fashion designer, an artist or architect, Design in 5 invites you to attend.

Reservations are required as the group will be limited to 20 people.

ReStore

Re:Store

How can local businesses thrive, along with families, neighborhoods and communities?

How can we share our gifts and talents to meet our everyday needs?

Re:Store is looking for ideas to make transactions as good for the soul as they are for the wallet.

How can all trade be fair? How can we find healthier ways to make exchanges in urban settings?

More than just rethinking how we buy, Re:Store is about rethinking what we've bought into about commerce.

It's time that ideas were the true currency.

Re:Store is your chance to make a change.
