 Launch of RIAS Professional Financial ServicesNew UK legislation is placing a higher burden on employers to educate and inform staff on financial matters.To help RIAS has established a partnership with Professional Financial Services (PFS) to create a financial advice service for members at both a corporate and personal level. With this Partnership RIAS hopes to achieve a service that will support members through the financial issues affecting them through their working life, clarifying how employers can comply with the changes ahead. RIAS PFS will provide advice across the range of financial services and will keep members abreast of new rules and legislation changes.  The AIA Recognizes 13 Projects with the 2009 CAE Educational Facility Design AwardsThe American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) have selected 13 educational and cultural facilities for this year's CAE Educational Facility Design Awards.The purpose of the design awards program is to identify trends and emerging ideas, honor excellence in planning and design, and disseminate knowledge about best practices in educational and community facilities. The jury's decisions are the culmination of a rich and thoughtful dialogue between architects and educators about exemplary architecture that supports and fosters the learning experience.  Paul Finch Appointed New Chair of CABEPaul Finch has been appointed as the new chair of CABE and will take over from Sir John Sorrell this December.Paul is Programme director of the World Architecture Festival, and editor emeritus of Architectural Review and Architects' Journal. He has chaired CABE's London 2012 design review panel since 2006. A former commissioner and deputy chair of CABE, Paul spent five years as chair of CABE's design review panel, and also chaired its regional committee. Sir John Sorrell said he was delighted by Paul Finch's appointment as his successor: "He will be a powerful advocate for good design. He brings an encyclopaedic knowledge of architecture and urban design, and he knows the work of every leading designer, internationally as well as nationally. Most importantly he knows how to get the best out of them, which is exactly what we need in difficult economic times." CABE chief executive Richard Simmons welcomed the announcement as good news for CABE and for the people CABE works with: "Paul always speaks his mind with great clarity and incisiveness, so I think his appointment demonstrates how much the government values CABE's independent voice.  A Space Within: The National September 11 Memorial & MuseumOn September 11th, 2001, what had been one of the world's most densely developed business districts became, for many, hallowed ground.Soon after, questions emerged. What comes next? How could one site serve the needs of victims' families, survivors of the attacks, members of the surrounding communities, business interests, and visitors? The answer required a clear separation of the sacred and the secular; a defined, eight-acre space, serving as a tribute, would be created within the larger development. A Space Within is a public showcase of the memorial and museum that are now taking shape at the heart of the World Trade Center site.
