Sustainable Spaces, a leading specialist in the growing field of home performance contracting and systems engineering, today announced that REGREEN, a best practices guidelines manual for green remodeling, has highlighted the company's approach to remediating home performance by including an in-depth home performance case study in their recent guidelines.
REGREEN is a partnership between the American Society of Interior Designers' Foundation (ASID) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
"Green homes are healthier places to live, are better for the environment and save money," said Linda Sorrento, Director, Education & Resource Partnerships for the U.S. Green Building Council.
"The REGREEN guidelines are an immediate and measurable way that individuals and homeowners can make a difference in the environment."
"Home performance evaluation and remediation is the science of evaluating the 'performance' of the entire home.
We look at how each component -- energy, windows, appliances, heating and ventilation -- interrelates in a systemic way to measure energy efficiency, air quality and comfort," said Sustainable Spaces founder Matt Golden.
"Through multiple steps, Sustainable Spaces works with homeowners to audit, measure, fix, re-measure and continuously monitor the home performance of our clients.
By doing this we are able to provide a complete and reasonable solution that goes to the heart of poor home performance."

This semester, Assistant Professor of Art Elijah Huge's Architecture II class is trying something new.
Not only is the class researching and designing a project for an outside client, but the students are also building this project.
"We have so much to deal with," said class member Angus McCullough '10.
"But I think we are going to make it happen.
We know of one other undergrad architecture program that is designing something of this scope...designing it all the way down to the nuts and bolts."

Long before green-friendly construction picked up speed in the United States, Bruce Dahlquist and Dwain Lutzow knew that eco-friendly properties were not just for hippies and tree huggers.
"We've got to take care of where we live," said Lutzow, the CEO of DLA Architects Ltd.
The Elgin-and Hinsdale-based architecture firm marked its 25th anniversary this year, and has committed to making eco-friendly designs a fundamental aspect in every commercial and residential blueprint generated.
The pair tries to adhere to environmentally friendly guidelines such as maximizing daylight in lieu of turning on interior lights, using low-flow plumbing fixtures that minimize water usage and employing regional materials that diminish the use of gas during transportation.
