![]() Buildings Seeking LEED to Provide Performance DataAs part of LEED v3, the latest version of the U.S. Green Building Council's program for green building design, construction, operations and maintenance, buildings seeking LEED certification will begin submitting operational performance data on a recurring basis as a precondition to certification."Today there is all too often a disconnect, or performance gap, between the energy modeling done during the design phase and what actually happens during daily operation after the building is constructed," said Scot Horst, Senior Vice President of LEED, U.S. Green Building Council. "We're convinced that ongoing monitoring and reporting of data is the single best way to drive higher building performance because it will bring to light external issues such as occupant behavior or unanticipated building usage patterns, all key factors that influence performance." USGBC will be able to use the performance information collected to inform future versions of LEED. "Building performance will guide LEED's evolution. This data will show us what strategies work - and which don't -- so we can evolve the credits and prerequisites informed by lessons learned," said Brendan Owens, USGBC's vice president of LEED technical development. more www.gre... Targeting LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the MCSRIC was designed by architecture firm Lord, Aeck & Sargent. The building is expected to be 31 percent more energy-efficient than a comparable building of a similar use and size constructed with conventional energy strategies, and to use 45 percent less water when compared with a baseline, or traditional building. more Skidaway Institute of Oceanography Expands Scope of Research With New Building design directory Lord Aeck Sargent Architecture > Architecture Companies added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Cliff Garten Studio Unveils Avenue of LightOn Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 9:00 p.m., the City of Fort Worth will illuminate the Avenue of Light, a major new work of public art created by Cliff Garten Studio of Los Angeles.Comprised of six soaring stainless steel sculptures set into the median of Lancaster Avenue, the monumental artwork forms a gateway to Fort Worth with an impressive display of lighting infrastructure. Glowing beacons, the sculptures herald a vibrant new identity for the re-emerging historical Lancaster District. Rising 36 feet above the streetscape, the Avenue of Light sculptures are at once transparent and opaque, depending on the viewer's position and time of day. Each sculpture is made of 100 stainless steel plates, whose forms are derived from architectural details in the nearby Texas & Pacific Terminal, an Art Deco landmark. Stacked onto armatures, the plates create torqued volumes that contain and reflect sunlight by day, and focus beams of colored LED lights at night. more Cliff Garten Studio Unveils Avenue of Light design directory Cliff Garten Studio > Architecture Design Studios added by Levent OZLER |
