The 2008 Traditional Building Design Challenge invites your team to be inspired by the wide array of Colonial, Classical, Victorian, and Modernist styled homes amongst its vast supply of historic architecture.
Each design team will consist of up to 3 participants working together for two days to design and hand-draw a new "old" house that could fit into Boston's Historic South End neighborhood.
To qualify for the Traditional Building Design Challenge you must submit an application and up to 3 examples of your firm's or company's work.
Portfolio submissions should include renderings, images, or photos of specific projects that reflect your experience and knowledge of the traditionally inspired movement.
During the Live Design Challenge, all competitors are expected to design and "draw by hand" a presentation plan view of each habitable floor, an exterior elevation of the front facade, and a site plan, which may be incorporated with the floor plan view. As participants, you will be busily working at locations where conference attendees can observe and interact.
Showcase your firm's talent and expertise during the one and only national event for historic restoration and traditonal design.

Living Steel is once again asking architects to take up the challenge to develop sustainable housing for the world's burgeoning housing shortage.
The 3rd International Architecture Competition presents architects with the task of creating energy efficient, single-family, detached housing that minimises climate change emissions and can withstand temperature extremes, yet is affordable to build and to buy.
The competition's Call for Expressions of Interest is launched today, and the world's architects can enter until 28 April 2008.
Architects entering an Expression of Interest must do so as a team of two architects to be eligible for short-list consideration.
Judged by some of the leading architects around the world, total prizes and honoraria are €100,000, with the winning design awarded €50,000.
The winning architects will use the exceptional qualities of steel to construct their design in Cherepovets, Russian Federation, where temperatures can range from -49 C to +34 C.
The homes constructed from the winning designs will be part of a community for use by employees of Russian steel maker, SeverStal JSC, headquartered in Cherepovets.

Two in three men and three in four women in England don't get enough exercise, but the good news is that the answer lies on our doorstep.
CABE has long argued that the design of your neighbourhood really does influence whether you're fit in the long term or whether you're going to gradually just put on weight.
That's because it's regular exercise which takes and keeps the pounds off - but you are only likely to take that exercise if local streets and open spaces are inviting.
The case for investing in decent design for streets and open spaces is getting stronger by the day.
This week saw the publication of both new government strategy and independent public health guidance into how active lifestyles can be designed into streets, towns, and cities.
Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives from the Department of Health outlines the government's plans to encourage healthier lifestyles.
There are some great proposals for 'healthy towns' which prioritise walking and cycling, outdoor green spaces and community-based initiatives to promote a good diet.
There is also a welcome focus on children and young people, especially the investment in "healthy schools".
CABE is working to ensure that safe and active travel to school is considered in the design and refurbishment of schools through the Building Schools for the Future programme.
It should also provide spaces for active play, and use school grounds to promote learning about healthy food.
