Label Laboratory-Talk Ready Made Architecture - on Recycling and Reuse in Architecture

Laboratory-Talk: Ready Made Architecture - on Recycling and Reuse in Architecture

A sustainable revolution in architecture and design has already begun: concepts of constructing with recycled and used materials have become quite accepted.

If the ready-made principle of art also applies to architecture, how can a "Ready Made Architecture" benefit more from the existing qualities and the potential added-value inherent to used products and materials?

How to incorporate recycling and reuse into architecture, contemporary design and urban planning?

What does a new architecture, which shortcuts material and transportation flows, look like?

The laboratory-talks will be held in German/English.

Vladimir Kagan to Speak at New York School of Interior Design 2009 Commencement Exercises

New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) has selected renowned furniture designer Vladimir Kagan as its keynote speaker for this year's commencement exercises.

Kagan, who in addition to speaking will receive the college's Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts, is one of today's most enduring designers of modern furniture with a career that has spanned over sixty years.

He started designing in 1946 and by the early fifties his innovative sculptured designs created a new look in American furniture.

Today, his sparkling creations are on the cutting edge of the 21st century.

Kagan's clients have included Marilyn Monroe, Gary Cooper, Walt Disney, General Electric and the Government of Venezuela.

Penny Bonda has also been selected to receive NYSID's Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts.

She has been an active participant in the green building industry since its early stages and has pioneered the development of many of the accepted practices and recognized standards that have defined the sustainability movement.

She is the founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council committee for LEED Commercial Interiors and the ASID Sustainable Design Council, and is a principal developer of REGREEN, the USGBC/ASID green residential renovation and interior remodeling program.

Transforming the Skyline Three Leading Women Architects

Transforming the Skyline: Three Leading Women Architects

Deborah Berke, Audrey Matlock, and Annabelle Selldorf will discuss what they have brought to one building form-the private apartment house-in a panel discussion moderated by Suzanne Stephens of Architectural Record and sponsored by the Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation as part of it's ongoing Richard H. Driehaus Series.

For decades the building of condominiums in New York has been considered the territory of commercial architects who designed banal buildings with little sensitivity to the urban milieu.

The three architects participating in "Transforming the Skyline" are innovators who will describe their specific contributions to this building type, as well as the challenges of designing architecture of quality in New York City.

Deborah Berke is a well-known New York-based architect and teacher who has recently succeeded in creating a high profile condominium via a low-keyed design strategy: 48 Bond's sleek black granite and zinc façade comes to downtown properly dressed, in black.

Audrey Matlock is in the course of completing the Chelsea Modern condominium on West 18th Street, whose zig-zag cascade of blue glass makes for an eye-catching addition to the streetscape.

Annabelle Selldorf, one of New York City's most sought after architects, is now opening her latest project, 520 West Chelsea, an 11-story residence on West 19th Street distinguished by dark bands of midnight-blue glazed terracotta.
