Label International Dialogues Architecture and Climate Change

International Dialogues: Architecture and Climate Change

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Trust is pleased to present a further programme of lectures in its acclaimed series International Dialogues: Architecture and Climate Change in association with Gleeds.

The highlight of the summer programme will be the RIBA Trust Annual Lecture, to be given by HRH The Prince of Wales on 12 May, as part of the RIBA's 175th Anniversary celebrations.

Other talks include Michael Pawlyn at the Guardian Hay Festival, Peter Head's lecture 'Entering an Ecological Age' and two Denmark: Designing for Climate Change talks by four Danish architecture practices.

The International Dialogues: Architecture and Climate Change series takes as its premise that architecture and the design and use of our built environment is an integral part of the climate change challenge.

This series brings together visionary thinkers and innovative practitioners from a range of disciplines to provide a forum for engaging with some of the key issues affecting architecture and the built environment now and in the future.

This programme aims to inspire diversity in our thinking about architecture and its relationship to issues of global governance, ecology, the environment, science, engineering, technology, energy production, resource dependency, food production and international development, amongst many others.

The New Acropolis Museum Designed by Bernard Tschumi Architects

The New Acropolis Museum, Designed by Bernard Tschumi Architects

The historic masterpieces of the New Acropolis Museum-from the archaeological remains of ancient Athens left visible beneath the building to the glorious Parthenon frieze installed at the top- will be displayed in total for the first time when the museum celebrates its official opening on June 20, 2009.

Designed by Bernard Tschumi Architects of New York and Paris with Michael Photiadis of Athens as local associate architect, the museum has presented a number of temporary exhibitions in a lower-floor gallery over the past year.

With the official opening, visitors will at last view the full suite of galleries, presented in a dramatic architectural experience designed explicitly for this collection.

With more than 150,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space-ten times more than the previous Acropolis museum-the New Acropolis Museum will display surviving antiquities from the Acropolis and serve as a catalyst for strengthening international interest in the classical world.

The 226,000 sq. ft. museum is both a defining cultural project for Greece and a key reference point for the art community around the globe.

To present the unparalleled collection, architect and lead designer Bernard Tschumi created a deliberately non-monumental structure whose simple and precise design invokes the mathematical and conceptual clarity of ancient Greek architecture.

CA Boom Design Show Descends on Beverly Hills in June

CA Boom Design Show Descends on Beverly Hills in June

The CA Boom Design Show defies the recession and moves boldly into its 6th year, bringing together the best of North America's non-traditional, modern and contemporary design and architecture.

CA Boom 2009 takes place Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28 in the former Robinsons flagship department store on the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards in Beverly Hills.

A favorite place for incubating companies and products to make their debuts, the show draws both the design trade and design savvy consumer, and has become a must-attend event for specifiers of quality design and architecture.

This season's impressive line-up will feature domestic and international designers, furniture and home manufacturers and architects.

The CA Boom Design Show is North America's only multi-discipline non-traditional design trade fair exhibition combining the highest caliber of architects, designers and design manufactures on the west coast.

The show outgrew last year's Barkar Hangar site in Santa Monica, and show manager, Charles Trotter decided to move the show into the mid-century modern former Robinsons department store in Beverly Hills.

Trotter anticipates continued growth for the popular show, in spite of the recession.

"We know that the economic crisis is a weight on everyone's mind, but that has never stopped good art and design from coming into fruition at any time in history.

In fact, in many ways it enhances it and drives furthercreativity," says Trotter.
