Manhattan-based developer FLAnk announced its newest luxury residential building, 441 East 57th Street, a 15-story condominium edged in anodized metal in fritted glass, in the heart of Sutton Place-a neighborhood rich in social and architectural history.
"Each residence is clearly articulated on the façade.
The assembly evokes a block of townhomes stitched in to a unified column," said Jon Kully, principal and co-founder of FLAnk.
"This coupling of distinction and unity is affirmed through employing fifty-one panel typologies, totaling over fifteen-hundred framed puzzle pieces.
The ubiquitous frit pattern evokes the nearby brick texture on neighborhood facades creating a truly striking structure."
When completed in Summer 2008, 441 East 57th Street will contain seven two- , three- and four-bedroom residences including four duplexes, one triplex and one penthouse, and will range in size from 1,650 square feet to 3,390 square feet, respectively.
Each residence will feature a refined level of finishes including charcoal stained maple flooring, BTX motorized shades and recessed cove lighting.
The kitchens will feature custom-designed cabinetry and mill work, a built-in breakfast banquet and a well considered appliance suite, which will include a La Cornue Cornufe range and oven, Miele dishwasher, Whitehaus 35" porcelain sink with a Dornbracht Tara faucet as well as a Viking refrigerator / freezer and wine chiller.

designLAB architects presented the Arkell Museum for the Arkell Hall Foundation.
designLAB has created a new museum for the foundation, renovating its historic, 20th century library at the site of the original Beech-Nut Factory in Canajoharie, New York.
Located on the scenic Mohawk River, the new Museum tells the multifaceted story of the intersections between local manufacturing, art, and culture through the lens of the arts patronage of industrialist Bartlett Arkell, founder of Beech-Nut foods.
The designLAB scheme infuses the forgotten industrial site with new life through thoughtful renovation and an engaging programmatic approach.
The expansion provides for over 8,000 SF of additional gallery space in compliment to the original 800 SF Nightwatch Gallery, which houses Bartlett Arkell's commissioned copy of the monumental Rembrandt piece, along with numerous paintings of landscape, domestic and genre scenes.
The Arkell collection of late 19th and early 20th century American art boasts works by Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, Edward Hopper, Thomas Hart Benton, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, Gary Melcher, and Andrew Wyeth, among many others.
This collection is further enriched by interactive exhibits displaying artifacts from the Mohawk River Valley's intriguing history.
The renovation of the old, gambrel-roofed library is blended with a contemporary gallery addition that alludes to the museum's industrial past.

Graphisoft announced that Graphisoft ArchiCAD 11 BIM Experience Kit is immediately available for download on both the Windows and Macintosh platforms.
"Studies show that 2D users have two conflicting fears: they are afraid they will lose their competitiveness if they don't adopt BIM, and they are also afraid that the BIM adoption is going to be too hard and they might fail.
The BIM Experience Kit enables professionals to learn BIM at their own pace and get a high comfort level before making the production switch", said Patrick Mays, AIA, Vice President, Graphisoft North America who has a long and successful track record of helping firms transition to a 3D design environment.

All the lectures are in the open-air courtyard under the extreme cantilever of the new architectural / sculptural installation, "Density Fields", by Oyler-Wu Collaborative.
Inspired by the pseudo-private situation of M&A's outdoor exhibition space, and the dissolution of boundaries it connotes, these lectures will organize around discussions of new cultural zones and forms.
Speakers will talk about the blurring and redrawing of conventional boundaries between public and private space, art and architecture, technical and nontechnical practices, social, institutional and commercial concerns.
All lectures are on Tuesday nights starting at 8PM / Gate opens at 7:30pm.
These events are open to everyone. 5$ donation requested at the gate.
The event will be canceled if its raining at 7pm w/o signs of relenting!
