Nicole Miller Collection Designs Created to Stand the Test of Time Fashionably

Nicole Miller Collection: Designs Created to Stand the Test of Time... Fashionably

Nicole Miller is an icon in the world of fashion.

A principal of America's design elite, her following is celebrity- driven and far-reaching thanks to her ability to continually create beautiful clothes that imbue an individual sense of style.

Ever since she exploded on the fashion scene more than two decades ago with her signature "little black dress," Miller has inspired design revolutions.

Now, she brings that revolution home, with an exquisite line of furnishings produced in Italy by expert craftsmen.

Just like her beautifully cut garments highlighted by exquisitely drawn prints, Miller's design aesthetic - contemporary flair meets classic style - inspires her collection of furnishings for the home.

Like the "little black dress" that launched Nicole Miller's career, her furniture collection is marked by the kind of iconic design elements one would expect to find in haute couture for the home.

Here, form meets function in leggy and graceful silhouettes worthy of any runway.

The beauty of the Nicole Miller Collection is its ability to dress every room in fresh, new style. Whether you are looking to furnish the living room, dining room, bedroom or an entire home, the watchwords here are quality, detail, and head-turning design that are both beautiful and easy to live with.

KKE Architects Designs Atlanta Symphony Orchestras New Venue

KKE Architects Designs Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's New Venue

KKE Architects has designed the highly anticipated new venue for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), helping to expand the Symphony's reach into the northern suburbs and provide a home for up to 35 national concerts annually as well as 15-25 arts-related, family, and free events in Fulton County, in the northern suburbs of Atlanta.

Earlier this year the ASO awarded naming rights to Verizon Wireless, a 12,000-seat, 46-acre site at Encore Park.

Ground was broken in June and the venue is scheduled to open in May of 2008.

Minneapolis based KKE Architects created seating for 7,000 people under a translucent fabric, fan-shaped roof suspended over a steel-framed structural system made up of large box truss girders and columns set 60-feet above the seating area.

Within the covered area are 4,750 fixed, stadium style seats and 46 box suites plus 2,068 removable seats.

An additional 5,000 patrons can be seated outside on a lawn area surrounded by two plazas featuring decorative facades and six entry gates.

Each plaza has a large food preparation building and seven food and beverage kiosks.

Sasaki Associates, landscape architects and master planners, Boston, Mass., collaborated on the design of the 46-acre wooded site.

"There's something very elegant and classical about enjoying a concert in the park," said Bill Bethmann, senior associate, KKE Architects.

Risk Taking and Bold Vision Are Key to Climate Action

Risk Taking and Bold Vision Are Key to Climate Action

CABE has set out its stall on sustainable design, with a new briefing paper, Sustainable design, climate change and the built environment.

It has identified a raft of measures needed to in order to meet the carbon reduction targets (80% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 according to the Stern Review).

These measures include: much stronger leadership from the public sector, which procures over £150 billion of buildings, goods and services each year; recognition of the central role of urban design and urban management in climate change strategies; and a far greater scale and sufficiency of action for building and refurbishment programmes.

It has also identified some of the changes needed within industry and the private sector.

CABE believes, for instance, that all UK-based multi- national construction groups should undertake an ecological and carbon footprint of their operations and publish the results.

CABE design reviews 400 significant schemes a year, yet it has only seen five housing schemes and masterplans which show any real ambition for sustainability.

They are One Gallions in Newham, East London; Middlehaven in Middlesbrough; New Islington in East Manchester; Waterlooville, Hampshire, and Southall Gasworks in Ealing, West London.

Undoubtedly there are others out there, which haven't been seen at CABE's design review, but such a paucity a full five years on from eco village BedZED's opening in south London i
