Winners of "Envisioning Gateway: A Public Design Competition for Gateway National Park" will be announced by representatives from Van Alen Institute, National Parks Conservation Association, The Tiffany & Co. Foundation, and Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
The winning designs will be revealed, offering creative solutions to transform the crumbling buildings and neglected natural resources at Gateway into a thriving national park for all New Yorkers and visitors.
Gateway National Recreation Area, located in the outer New York-New Jersey Harbor, covers more than 26,600 acres, and stretches through parts of Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
The national park is home to the city's first municipal airport, Civil War-era military defense structures, and scores of migrating birds and sandy beaches.
