DWELL on Design Opens to the PublicToday marks the opening of the 2nd annual DWELL on Design conference and exhibition.
The event is open to conference attendees Fri-Sun and the public Sat-Sun.
The publishing brand best known by its tagline, "At home in the Modern World" opens this year's conference today with a stellar lineup of speakers.
Moderated by Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Journalist John Hockenberry, the program includes: DWELL editor-in-Chief Sam Grawe and other editors; Alice Waters of Chez Panisse and The Edible Schoolyard; Craig Hartman, FAIA, and Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill who led the Treasure Island Redevelopment project; Reed Kroloff, Dean of Tulane's school of architecture; Steve Glenn of Living Homes and many more noteworthy luminaries.
The theme of the conference, "Building Community in the Modern World," is focused on eco-design and sustainable design and materials, and is intended to spark inspiration and dialogue between designers and enthusiasts.
Mayor Gavin Newsom is expected to attend the Friday evening Opening Reception.
Held at the San Francisco Concourse, at 8th and Brannan, the weekend includes 100+ preeminent exhibitors and a newly introduced public venue, DWELL OUTDOOR designed by Shades of Green, showcasing a ground breaking pop-up prefab community.
