Exploring Design Firm Mergers: Achieving Expectations and Avoiding PitfallsAn interactive panel discussion, organized by the Professional Practice Committee, explores the pros and cons of mergers of design practices today.
In the last 12 months there has been a startling increase in the number of mergers involving NY area Architectural firms.
Undoubtedly, due to the pending recession and its ultimate impact on design firms, firms have once again looked to merging with larger partners, with deeper pockets and broader market sector opportunities , as a means of staying competitive.
These firms have gone ahead, despite common knowledge that many design firm mergers have been unsuccessful in the past.
This discussion will feature principals of three design firms that have each been thru a recent merger, and have agreed to share what they've learned about the process with their colleagues.
It is hoped that by identifying and exploring the major issues that these firms have had to address, from the initial decision making process to the ultimate integration of their firms, that other firms considering mergers, will be better prepared for the process, and will have more realistic expectations of what works and what doesn't.
