MAC Desk by Natalie DionneThe Musee d'art contemporain de Montreal is reorganizing its entrance hall with a steely new reception desk designed by architect Natalie Dionne.
Constructed of an assemblage of large steel sheets, the desk strikes an imposing yet sober silhouette.
This project explores design possibilities based on a single material, steel, which is deployed and unveiled in its raw state.
The bluish tinge that hot-rolled steel acquires during manufacturing is retained and polished as though it were precious metal.
The steel sheets are juxtaposed and bent with origami-like precision, their reverse sides painted to complement an apple green quartz countertop that is revealed from within.
