Architectural Epicentres: Inventing Architecture, Intervening in RealityThe book Architectural Epicentres: Inventing Architecture, Intervening in Reality presents seven architectural productions of the 20th and 21st centuries: Mexican architecture which gained world prominence in the 1950s and 1970s, Brazil's "irrational modernism", the "extended rationalism" of Finnish architecture of the 1950s, the Swiss Ticino Tendenza, the Super Dutch phenomenon of the late 1980s, the architectural production of Spain's Barcelona and Bilbao, and the emerging architecture of Slovenia today.
These productions are approached and analysed through a highly specific set of optics, as of architectural epicentres.
That is the architectural practice, which is not a continuity of its own tradition, nor the logical result of the circumstances and conditions within which it is made.
This is a practice that establishes and affirms itself through the tremors - the tremors of the conditions of its own situation including its own knowledge and tradition.
