Cecil Balmond: Solid VoidCecil Balmond: Solid Void, the first major U.S. exhibition on the work of Balmond and his London-based Advanced Geometry Unit (AGU) at the international, multi-disciplinary engineering firm ARUP, marks the first site-specific installation in the 50-year history of the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts' exhibition program.
Solid Void investigates concepts in select theories behind building-geometry, numbers and patterns-through a large-scale, site-specific installation that contrasts the features of the Prairie-style architecture of the Madlener House.
Sri Lankan born, structural engineer, Cecil Balmond is best known for his daring project collaborations with some of the world's most celebrated architects.
His unorthodox and visionary approach that merges architecture and engineering has created some of the most challenging buildings in the canon of contemporary architecture.
Balmond's creativity and adventurous spirit that he brings to his work influences his peers and dazzles those who experience it.
