Pencalenick House Shortlisted for the Wood AwardsPencalenick House designed by Seth Stein Architects has been shortlisted for the prestigious Wood Awards, the UK's premier architecture and furniture competition celebrating excellence in design in the world's most sustainable material.
Pencalenick House is a luxurious modern retreat in the heart of the Du Maurier country on Cornwall's south coast.
The house sits alone and majestic on the Pont Hill creek, opposite the historic town of Fowey and is surrounded by National Trust protected countryside.
The house, though contemporary in its form, deploys natural materials such as a glu-lam timber structure, cedar cladding, elm flooring and joinery and Cornish slate.
Sited on a steeply sloping hillside, the house's curved plan responds to the site's topography and aspect and its green roof is seeded with local grasses to harmonise the building with its surrounding landscape.
Winners of the Wood Awards 2008 will be announced at a ceremony on 15 October 2008.
