 Design guru to work in GlasgowIto, one of the world's most admired architects, has been commissioned to design the new £90 million Selfridges' store in Glasgow - his first major work in the country.
Jubilant store executives promised the Japanese maestro, who designed buildings such as the Tower of Winds in Yokohama and the Mediatheque in Sendai, will create an architectural and artistic landmark in the east end of the city centre at Trongate.
And yesterday, a project director with the Merchant City Initiative, who was given a sneak preview of Mr Ito's highly secret concept, said: "Glasgow, Scotland or, indeed, the UK, has never seen anything like this."
