2 Students Take Up a Design ChallengeThe classes of 2005 to 2009 are made up of some of the most design-savvy students to ever approach the task of decorating a dorm room.
These kids have been raised on television shows such as Bravo's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," MTV's "MTV Cribs" and, of course, the senior of reality home-design TV shows, TLC's "Trading Spaces."
They're comfortable shopping for inexpensive, well-designed furniture at stores like IKEA as well as shopping on the Internet, at flea markets, from catalogs and at the curb.
To generate some ideas for doing the 2004 Dormitorium De Luxe, we assigned two seniors from Chicago -- an interior design student and an interior architecture student -- the challenge of brightening up a dorm room on a budget.
Each was handed $500 and told to not only go shopping for stuff but to also come up with ideas for making the dorm comfortable and functional. Here's what each student came up with.
