Organic Architect Does It With PrincipleEric Corey Freed bills himself as an "organic architect," but he's a deeper shade of green. Think of him as a one-man wrecking crew driven to transform an industry that consumes 40 percent of the world's resources.
"In the future, all buildings will be green," notes Freed. "It is inevitable. We are in this strange adolescence between a childhood of the industrial revolution and an adulthood of responsibility. Any efforts to make change should help us transition into being responsible adults."
Freed is the founder of organicArchitect (oA), an architectural firm that "promotes both an organic and individual approach to design." A major aspect of his work arises from the need to educate clients (and the public) about the necessity and inevitability of building not only with green materials but with green principles as well. Freed first accomplished this step by mastering what he calls "the substitution game" -- switching standard building materials with green alternatives and justifying the cost.
