Just a Long Piece of String Leads to Design SuccessSometimes it just takes an unusual visual prompt to help us understand the art of accessorizing.
Is a piece of string memorable enough?
This fun and effective idea comes courtesy of Ernesto Garcia, a professional interior designer at the Robb & Stucky Furniture and Design Studio, 15440 N. Scottsdale Road. Using a piece of string and a coffee table, Garcia demonstrated how to place accessories of different heights, shapes, textures and colors so that they are appealing to the eye.
By now you know that the minute I'm on to a great idea, I can't wait to share it with you. I hope you find this information as fun and useful as I did.
Why the coffee table?
Ernesto chose a coffee table to demonstrate his "string theory" because it's often a strong design element in a room, and quite often we accessorize it incorrectly. As Ernesto put it, "I've never met a cocktail or coffee table that wasn't important to the room in which it is placed."
For those of you who like a more "crowded look," here's some great news. While the "minimalist" approach to accessorizing is still a trend, Ernesto said another one is emerging; the idea of multiple groupings of bold, rich-looking accessories clustered together in varying shapes, sizes and textures on one surface area like a coffee table.
