Wal-Mart and City of Glette Agree on DesignAfter going through four development plans, Wal-Mart and the City of Gillette made some design commitments this week to double the existing store to a Super Wal-Mart at its existing location.
"There's been a whole ton of issues that have been discussed," said Michael Surface, senior planner for the city.
These have included traffic flow, the store facade, landscaping and other requirements from the city.
"Every topic from A to Z has been covered," Surface said. "Wal-Mart has been very cooperative."
Thus far, Wal-Mart has agreed to pay to expand Madison Avenue to have two left turn lanes and to buy a new traffic signal for the intersection. The corporation also will construct a 40-foot-wide easement and bridge to provide access to the Powder Basin Shopping Center from the east end of Wal-Mart's parking lot.
The store's appearance has been through back-and-forth discussions with some agreement this week, Surface said. The agreed-upon front will have some rock treatments along the bottom and timber accents.
Groundbreaking is expected next spring, and the store is expected to open in 2006, according to Eric Berger, Wal-Mart spokesman.
