AutoCAD 2005 Boosts Customer Productivity and Design Efficiency

Designers and other professionals can realize as many as 14 hours per week in productivity gains by shifting to AutoCAD 2005 from older versions, according to a study conducted by the University of California for Autodesk, Inc., the world's leading design software and digital content company.

In practice, with a single day of training, nearly 75 percent of an organization' ;s AutoCAD users should be able to achieve the productivity levels of the most expert designers after upgrading from AutoCAD 2002 to AutoCAD 2005. The study found that the productivity gains are especially pronounced for a number of common - and often tedious - tasks that designers routinely perform.

"Whenever Autodesk creates a new version of AutoCAD, we work hard to make sure its new features provide real, tangible benefits to customers," said John Sanders, vice president of Autodesk's Platform Technologies division. "What this research proves is that we succeeded. Being able to return 14 hours a week to AutoCAD users means they have more time to spend doing the things they love to do, are trained to do, and that boost the bottom line of their companies."

The study, in its second year, was designed by UC Berkeley researchers and involved direct observation of AutoCAD 2002 users with a range of experience levels over a number of industries. Researcher
