Londons Tallest Skyscraper Design Unveiled

London's Tallest Skyscraper Design Unveiled

Designs are being unveiled for the tallest skyscraper to be proposed in the UK since Canary Wharf, the London Bridge Tower. Created by world-leading architect Renzo Piano, the building will soar 1,280 feet (390 metres) above the Thames comprising 80 storeys.

The skyscraper, which comprises more than 1m sq ft, will feature office space, shops, restaurants, exhibition space, desirable residences towards the upper levels, a luxury hotel taking up a fifth of the overall space, mini gardens on many of the floors and a viewing area at the top.

At the lower levels, the building will extend the existing public concourse and open up routes connecting Guy's Hospital, King's College and the southern residential areas to the business communities stretching along the river.

Due to its ambitious nature, developers will be consulting local businesses, residents, Southwark Planning officials and government officials before applying for planning approval from Southwark council. The London Planning Advisory (LPAC) has provided advice to the government on high buildings stating that, "[they] can mark or draw attention to locations of civic or visual importance such as town centres and major public transport interchanges."
