Millenia Mall Receives Design AwardThe Mall at Millenia has received an award for innovative design and construction from the International Council of Shopping Centers. The award, part of the 28th annual International Design and Development Awards, recognizes outstanding projects in the creation of new retail projects and the expansion or redevelopment of existing projects.
This year's winners were selected from a field of 50 entries, with 39 finalists in the competition.
The architecture for the two-level, 1.4 million-square-foo t center reflects an international contemporary style using the geometric forms of the circle, square and triangle as the basis for the exterior and interior spaces, the shopping center association says. It features the use of exposed steel and stainless steel blended with glass, stone, and wood. Its most unique feature is a curved S-shaped plan crowned with an exposed steel truss framing system that forms a 63-foot-high vaulted skylight system above the main concourse.
The Mall at Millenia is owned by The Forbes Co. and Taubman Centers Inc. The design, production and graphic architect for this project was JPRA Architects; the lighting designer was Focus Lighting; and the landscape architect was Grissim Metz Associates. The general contractor for this project was Hardin Construction Co. LLC.
