Lord Norman Foster Designs Tsunami SchoolCelebrated architect Lord Norman Foster has agreed to design the Phuket school to be built in memory of Norfolk tsunami victim Louise Willgrass.
And Prime Minister Tony Blair has pledged his support for a Live Aid-style concert in London's Pall Mall to boost the £400,000 already raised for the Louise Willgrass Tsunami Fund.
Lord Foster's company, Fosters and Partners, is behind some of the world's most high-profile buildings, including: the iconic 'gherkin' in London - actually the headquarters of Swiss Re Bank; the new German Parliament in the Reichstag, Berlin; the rebuilding of New York's World Trade Centre; and the UEA's Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.
Next week, with co-trustee of the fund, Keith Watts, Mr Willgrass will meet the senior partner of the architect's Singapore office.
Mr Watts said: "With Lord Norman Foster involved, building the school has now become a serious show. It is going to be a structure of great importance that will pay tribute to all the people who lost their lives in the tsunami.
"After the memorial service Tony Blair also said he would help in any way that he could. He is now writing a letter of support for the Live Aid style fundraising concert we hope to have in Pall Mall."
Mr Willgrass, Mr Watts and the fund's other trustee, Jon Pemberton, will go to Thailand in June to star
