PNC Going Green with Environmentally Friendly Branch DesignPNC Bank has decided to make 90 new so-called second-generation bank branches as "green" buildings, which are made with environmentally friendly architectural design and construction materials and certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The new branches will be constructed over the next five years throughout the mid-Atlantic region, with 13 of them in southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey. The first one will be in East Bradford near West Chester.
Some of the green qualities the branches will have include, among others things: countertops made with recycled paper and sustainable wood; cabinets made with wheat board, a renewable material, instead of plywood; solar panels on the roof to convert sunlight into energy; and window glazing that keeps the building cool.
Clemens Construction Co. of Philadelphia was hired by PNC, which is based in Pittsburgh, to complete the construction of the buildings.
