New Façade for the Warehouse of Sedus-Stoll by Sauerbruch Hutton ArchitectsAfter an extension of storage space the already existing high-bay warehouse of Sedus-Stoll was to be covered with a new façade.
As the largest element amongst the various buildings of the factory it presents an impressive elevation towards the Rhine and the hills of the Black Forest Beyond.
The design of the new façade is based on the use of an off-the-shell cladding system.
Twenty special colours have been chosen to be distributed in a particular composition over the entire surface of the building volume.
From close-by the effect is one of a large-format painting, which will lend a new image for Sedus Stoll, whilst from further away the effects of distance and atmospheric conditions combine to dissolve the large mass into context.
In terms of its shape and size, the Innovation and Development Centre mediates between the domestic scale of the houses at the western end of village of Dogern and the large scale of Sedus' own factory premises.
A two-storeyed building is placed on the site in line with the neighbouring house, parallel to the road.
The pitched roofs of the building, however, are aligned directly north-south – for quality of light and the implementation of solar panels.
