The Boxy Building by Atelier Pagnamenta TorrianiThe design intent is to create a building that conveys a sense of reassurance to the public by its transparency and light-filled structure.
It provides an inspiring, pleasant, calming and secure environment for both the police and the public.
The physical situation, in the Pomonok Houses project, mostly blocky, tower-in-the-park structures, informed the decision to maintain a simple, rectilinear concept, related to the urbanism of the street.
By adding a sunken garden in front of the building, concerns of vehicular attack on the police station were solved.
The building is organized very directly, utilizing two visually shifting bars to house both the office/working spaces and the support spaces.
A free form inserted in the front office bar serves as the muster room and is also available for public use.
The main façade element is a translucent glass wall, which performs several functions in the design: thermal buffer, visual screen, light diffuser and security barrier.
It will allow light to flow into the police station during the day and become a light-filled beacon during the night.
"The very concept of security has thus changed.
It is seen as an aim to be achieved by a different approach and different relations from those envisaged until this day as being relevant to police areas and public areas."
