Spencer Street Station Redevelopment ProjectWith its striking visual appearance, the redeveloped Southern Cross Station will be a distinctive landmark and a world-class transport facility when complete in early 2006.
Through a sequence of staged deliveries, Victorians will be able to experience these outstanding facilities first hand, with the station remaining fully operational throughout the construction phase.
To maintain rail services, a major proportion of the work will be undertaken during times which will minimise disruption to both services and passengers.
Civic Nexus is the consortium responsible for the $700 million Spencer Street Station Redevelopment Project.
The Redevelopment includes a new $350 million world-class transport interchange facility.
In addition, Civic Nexus plan to build office accommodation, residential towers/hotel and a retail plaza on the site, at a further cost of $350 million, bringing the total cost of the development to $700 million.
The new station will bring together the best elements of a modern, international-styl e station, creating a user-friendly facility that will be comfortable, convenient and safe for passengers.
The station will become a functional arrival point for international, interstate, regional and suburban visitors, able to comfortably handle 30,000 passengers an hour in peak periods.
