Cooloola Sunshine Institute of TAFE Noosa CentreProject Services' intention was to explore a way in which the public art allocation might enrich the continuing life of the building.
The solution for Public Art was two fold.
First was a photographic mural which celebrated two national treasures with strong links to the Cooloola region: the poet Judith Wright and the photographer Richard Stringer.
Their holidays nearby at Lake Cootharaba resulted in work which responded directly to Cooloola's 'spirit of place'.
Richard Stringer was commissioned for a mural based on his photographs of the region and including Judith Wright's poem At Cooloolah.
The incorporation of poetry acknowledged also the contribution to Public Art of the Hon Matt Foley, former Minister for the Arts.
The mural is sited above the reception counter of the Campus, indicative of the intended ethos of the new Centre and as a continuing challenge to occupants of the site.
Instead of spending the balance and bulk of the available funds on commissioned pieces, Project Services' second response was to propose building a residential space for visiting artists, to be used in conjunction with painting and pottery studios in the building.
The space is administered by a committee of TAFE Institute staff and the Regional Art Community and provides short-term accommodation for artists visiting the
