Designers Make a Splash in £9.9 Million Project

Architects involved in London's Olympic Swimming Pool have won a national competition to design a new £9.9 million pool for a Northamptonshire town.

Corby's new pool is part of the masterplan for the flagship Parkland Gateway Regeneration project on the edge of the town centre.

The 25-metre, eight-lane competition pool will also include a learner pool, leisure pool, health suite, 70 station gym, dance studio, squash courts and café/restaurant.

The swimming pool will be the first building constructed on the site, and is scheduled to open in early Spring 2008.

S&P Architects, who are supporting Zaha Hadid Architects in the design of the 2012 London Olympic Swimming Pool, won a competition to design Corby's pool.

More than £100 million will be invested in Corby's Town Centre redevelopment programme over the next five years, including a new £35m, 20-unit shopping mall which is already under construction.

The overall regeneration process is being led by Catalyst Corby, the Urban Regeneration Company created in early 2001.

Bob Lane, Chief Executive of Catalyst Corby, said: "Quality design is vital to the successful regeneration of Corby so we are delighted that S&P is on board.
