Scottsdale's oldest Hotel Valley Ho Reopens with a New FaceliftScottsdale's oldest hotel - with a swank new edge to its mid-1950s style - reopens for a second run at becoming the city's toniest downtown setting.
After three years and an $80 million face lift, Westroc Hospitality partners Scott Lyon and Bill Nassikas will try to recapture the magic that for decades brought so many locals and visiting celebrities through the Valley Ho's doors to its poolside oasis.
"It's like a stage, we buy the furniture, set the lighting, outfit the staff, but the glamour is the people who walk through the door," said Nassikas, adding that it's exciting to see "this place alive again."
Westroc carefully restored the 49-year-old hotel to keep its original design intact but added contemporary touches and 21st-century technology.
Back in the day, Valley Ho wasn't all poolside fashion shows, swinging tunes in the lounge and wedding receptions for Hollywood stars.
But it had glamour at a time when Scottsdale was little more than a low-slung downtown with a few neighborhoods cozying up against Camelback Mountain.
Valley Ho's guest book reads like a who's who of Hollywood and sports: Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood, Bing Crosby, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh, Frankie Avalon, Jimmy Durante and Roy Rogers, along with baseball greats Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and fiery manager
