Plans for Bank of North Dakota UnveiledThe new Bank of North Dakota building will use bricks made at the state's oldest manufacturing company and will have lots of windows, bank officials announced Wednesday.
Eric Hardmeyer, president of BND, showed reporters architectural drawings of the new bank, which will be located on 7.2 acres of land between Memorial Highway and Main Avenue at the site of the former Palace Arms Hotel.
The building is mostly rectangular, except for a bowed part that will face the Missouri River. The bowed portion, which Hardmeyer described as the keel of a boat, is a tribute to the river and the history of Lewis and Clark.
The enormous amount of green glass on the building is its most distinguishing feature and a welcomed change from the current bank that has no windows.
"Coming from a building with no windows, you can see we went a little overboard with windows," Hardmeyer said.
The bottom of the building will have toasted grey bricks made at the Hebron Brick Factory, which is the oldest manufacturing company in North Dakota.
