Architecture Loving Authors Kill Off Ugly BuildingsTwo German architecture fans have written a detective novel in which ugly buildings get killed.
The novel, called Downtown, was written by Johann Christian Lotter and Reinhard Rael Wissdorf and is set in Frankfurt on the Main.
In it, a serial killer destroys a number of ugly buildings in the city.
The author's ways of killing off buildings includes letting a tram drive into them, having a crane collapse onto them or simply letting them get hit by a wrecker's ball.
The two argue the building style of the 1960s "destroyed Frankfurt again after the Second World War."
"Frankfurt needs a lot more beautiful, ornate high-rises," the authors told the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper.
But they say that even today, Frankfurt is the only German city to actually look like a metropolis.
