The Corus Architectural Student Awards 2007Corus is inviting students to register their intent to enter its nineteenth Architectural Student Awards - "H2Ouse - Living on the water".
Climate change and its affect on rising sea levels is the theme for this year's award, which challenges students to design a creative housing solution utilising steel that will benefit a community living in an area either threatened by unpredictable water levels, or permanently on water.
Matthew Teague, Consultant Architect, Corus comments on the theme: "This year's competition asks students to address a problem that hangs over new developments all over the UK - how can we build on flood plains without investing massively in the kind of flood protection common in the Netherlands".
Final submissions could consider any number of possible solutions - a permanent dwelling or a flexible demountable temporary shelter that could easily be adapted to provide disaster relief for a location anywhere in the world.
However, regardless of the form, the community should have zero impact on the environment and, despite the ever-present threat of flood, water conservation should also be a primary concern.
