Contemporary Istanbul 2006 Art Fair Opens This Week at ICEC

Contemporary Istanbul 2006 Art Fair Opens This Week at ICEC

The premier edition of Contemporary Istanbul, Turkey's and the region's newest contemporary art show, will be held this week between December 21-24 at the Lutfi Kirdar Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center, located at the very heart of the city.

More than 65 galleries and art initiatives representing several countries will take part in this year's inaugural edition.

Deutsche Bank has become a sponsor of Contemporary Istanbul.

Next year, the fair will be held on September 5-9, 2007 to coincide with the opening week of the 10th edition of the Istanbul Biennial.

Contemporary Istanbul, already perceived locally as the most desirable art fair for contemporary galleries, artists, and collectors alike, will grow to become the region's most important art show by attracting top galleries and artists from the entire Middle East, the Balkans, the Turkic Republics of Central Asia, North Africa, as well as several of the more established galleries from the Western Hemisphere.

Istanbul, with its magnificent historical architecture and its vibrant nightlife, sets the perfect backdrop for a contemporary art show.

This year, Contemporary Istanbul is expected to attract approximately 50,000 visitors during the four days immediately prior to Christmas Holidays.

Volume Photographs United Visual Artists

Volume Photographs: United Visual Artists

A luminous interactive installation has transformed the V&A's John Madejski Garden this winter.

Volume is a sculpture of light and sound, an array of light columns positioned dramatically in the centre of the garden.

Volume responds spectacularly to human movement, creating a series of audio-visual experiences.

Step inside and see your actions at play with the energy fields throughout the space, triggering a brilliant display of light and sound.

The METROPOLIS View 25 Years Through the Lens at Design Miami

The METROPOLIS View: 25 Years Through the Lens at Design Miami

Metropolis magazine announces The Metropolis View: 25 Years Through the Lens, a traveling exhibit on display in the Miami Design District, December 7-10, 2006.

Curated and designed by Metropolis creative director Criswell Lappin, the exhibition features the work of 25 award-winning photographers whose striking images have played a large part in the magazine's success and global perspective.

Each photographer will showcase an image of his or her favorite metropolis, resulting in an exhibition of cityscapes from the skyscrapers of Hong Kong to the politically divided streets of Belfast, from the interior spirals of New York City's Guggenheim Museum to a puzzling upside down shop in Milan.

"This exhibition provides a great visual reference to what Metropolis is about-going beyond traditional architecture photographs that appear in trade or shelter magazines," Lappin says.

"We count on our photographers to not only capture aesthetically pleasing forms, but to show how buildings and cities function."

The exhibit will include the work of Robert Polidori, Sylvia Plachy, Paul Warchol, Sean Hemmerle, Kristine Larsen, Lara Swimmer, Todd Hido, David Allee, Julius Shulman, Jimmy Cohrssen, Timothy Hursley, and Tony Law; their photographs also appeared in the 25th Anniversary issue of Metropolis in April.

Absolut Lomo Invites Consumers to Display Photos

Absolutlomo takes center-stage in the ABSOLUT LOMO campaign; visitors are invited to a Gallery featuring ABSOLUT LOMO art.

For the first time ever in ABSOLUT history, people are encouraged to participate with own photos in the project.

The pictures will be hand-fitted to the Gallery wall and featured in the exhibition.

Photographers are welcome to send in photos until February 28, 2007.

This is the outcome of a unique collaboration between ABSOLUT and The Lomographic Society.

The ABSOLUT LOMO print advertising displays how six dedicated artists have interpreted the ABSOLUT VODKA brand and their artwork - through a Lomo camera lens.

On the website, consumers - above 21 years old - will receive the same brief as the previously featured photographers.

The brief is straight to the point: "To shoot one or a series of images capturing your vision of ABSOLUT.

The Present History

The Present History

Canberra based art duo The Contextual Villains have published a limited edition artists book that deals with the way we shape the past through our stories and envision the future through our dreams.

The 74 page full colour case bound picture book, includes a CD soundtrack and the combined work of over 25 visual, sound and text based artists.

The book will be launched in conjunction with an exhibition of original works at The Front Gallery on Wattle Street Lyneham at 6.30pm, Thursday the 23rd of November by Dr. Martin Jolly head of the Photomedia Department at the Canberra School of Art.

Rachel Peachey and Paul Mosig who go under the pseudonym The Contextual Villains, use the contributions of their fellow artists along with their own photographs and iconic historical imagery collected from discarded pictorial histories found in opportunity shops.

The final collaged images seemlessly combine the variety of art works and styles to create collective narratives of our shared experiences.

The soundtrack produced by Sam Karmel and Tarquin Manek follows the cycle of growth and collapse adding depth to the visual encounter in the style of a film score.
