Agnes Doroszewicz Photographs the Red Dot Design Yearbook Cover

Agnes Doroszewicz Photographs the Red Dot Design Yearbook Cover

Every year, red dot gives newcomer photographers the chance to place one of the products awarded the red dot award: product design as "Design Quotation of the Year" on the cover of the yearbook pertaining to the red dot award: product design.

The design quotation for 2006 originates from Agnes Doroszewicz, a young photographer from Hamburg.

With her design draft, Agnes Doroszewicz could stand up to numerous contenders, and she contributed to the fact that the red dot design yearbook, having itself established as the standard work of the design branch, turns out to be another optical highlight this year as well.

In an interview, the cover designer of this year's red dot design yearbook spoke with us about the challenge of this task, about the intention behind her design draft, and she allowed us to gain insights into the philosophy of her works.

Onedotzero

Onedotzero

Young blood always delivers fresh directions but needs to be given the opportunity and the platform.

Established and experienced players also need to be stretched and challenged, to go beyond their comfort zones, this too needs a place and an outlet.

Onedotzero is that place.

A place where creative crossovers are encouraged, infusing artistic endeavours with new vigour.

We champion the convergence of ideas, disciplines, technology, art, and commerce.

It is an age of digital disintegration.

Barriers are being broken down geographically, technically and creatively opening up new and exciting possibilities and opportunities.

We believe that in this age, creatives find a wider application for their skills learned in one area.

For example, who would have guessed that architects would be at the heart of digital filmmaking ten years ago?

We also promote the spirit of collaboration that can also lead to new ways of thinking and producing.

Music is a driving force of innovation, both creatively and technically, and is intrinsically linked to this scene.

Those who truly embrace the audio with the visual are finding new credible and international audiences.

Their appeal is that of the future.

Onedotzero is about all these areas but we want to make a difference, make people think and inspire the futur

Korean Master Glass Artists Exhibit Work

Korean Master Glass Artists Exhibit Work

Usually considered a practical medium for vases and windows, a current University Museum exhibit gives glass a new image.

"With all the transparency, translucency and opaqueness, glass can have a lot of different assets," said Jiyong Lee, organizer of the exhibit and the International Pre-Conference Glass Workshop next week.

In the museum installation titled "5,199 Miles Journey," nine Korean master glass artists demonstrate how the medium mirrors human perception.

The works highlight glass's properties to both distort and accurately reflect.

Layers of color and texture in various pieces show how glass can disguise or make clear.

In one work, a mirrored ball's almond-shaped "eyes" see divergent versions of its surroundings. In another installation, viewers peer through a wall's peep holes for varying views of passersby on the other side.

The possibilities for glass are so rich, not even glass artists are aware of them all, Lee said.

"I really want to expose a variety of aspects of glass to the students to give them a wide range they can pick and choose from later," said Lee, an assistant professor in the School of Art and Design.

"It's important to see what other professional artists are doing in the different countries.

I look forward to having this international exchange."

The display reflects how a

Frist Exhibit Unmasks Ancient Egypt

Frist Exhibit Unmasks Ancient Egypt

With its massive pyramids, miraculously preserved mummies and mysterious hieroglyphs, ancient Egypt holds a special place in the popular imagination - a distant land where crocodiles prowled the banks of the Nile, people routinely practiced the art of embalming the dead, and pharaohs were immortalized with monumental structures that rival anything from our own era.

This abiding appeal dates back even to the ancient Greeks, says Susan Edwards, executive director of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, and today it still captures the public's attention.

"Egypt has many fascinating aspects and layers.

Firstly, it was the site of the pyramids, which were among the seven wonders of the ancient world.

These remarkable engineering feats are still mind-boggling to us.

Egyptians were the first architects, the first people to develop written language, and the first people to make beer.

Their complex beliefs about an afterlife have never ceased to be a source of intrigue and mystery from ancient times until today."

Nashvillians are getting a firsthand look at that alluring and mystical world with The Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt, which opened at the Frist on Friday.

Organized by the United Exhibits Group, Copenhagen, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., in association with the Supreme Counc

Interact with Large Speech Bubbles

Interact with Large Speech Bubbles

Using "always on" technology, cell phones with SMS messaging allow an audience to interact with large speech bubbles projected onto a flat surface, like the facade of a building.

The bubbles are positioned near windows and doors to encourage an audience to create the conversations happening inside.
