The Hurricane Poster Project

The Hurricane Poster Project

Moxie Sozo, a nationally known design firm in Boulder, Colorado is teaming up with other designers and design firms around the country to create The Hurricane Poster Project.

All poster designers please step up!

The Hurricane Poster Project seeks limited edition sets of hurricane-related posters from high-profile and up-and-coming artists, designers, and design firms from around the United States and abroad.

The donated posters will be sold online, and all proceeds will go directly to the Red Cross.

As designers, we have the collective ability to do what we love, and to create a difference.

The Hurricane Poster Project has been conceived as a collective effort by the design community to unite and effect change through our work. In order for this project to be successful, we are counting on designer participation.

Our goal is to raise at least $1,000,000 for the Red Cross through this project.

Please spread the word.

Please participate.

We continue to receive new posters almost every day, and will continue to accept submissions until December 31, 2005.

The 2006 Pirelli Calendar

The 2006 Pirelli Calendar

The 2006 edition of the Pirelli Calendar, a cult object for more than 40 years for people who love photography, beauty, and the evolution of society, presented in a world premiere in Paris.

"The Cal" 2006 by the consolidated British-Turkish duo, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, world renowned photographers that specialize in women's portraits, was shot in a striking sixties-like setting on the French Riviera and stars six extraordinarily beautiful and sensual women.

Jennifer Lopez, making her Pirelli Calendar debut, Giselle Bundchen, Guinevere Van Seenus, Kate Moss, Karen Elson, and Natalia Vodianova are nude, sexy and gorgeous in 27 shots that make up the most transgressive edition of "The Cal".

Seduction and freedom of expression are the absolute protagonists of the 2006 Pirelli Calendar, whose linking thread could be summed up in the expression "libres et puissantes".

Aware of their fame and beauty, the six models feel free to undress and appear sensual and intriguing.

The body is portrayed as a free instrument of power: sensuality becomes a dolphin on a leash or a cat securely held in the nude arms of a naughty girl.

True contemporary icons, the interpreters posed with impeccable professionalism, creating an immediate feeling with two of the world's greatest photographers.

Son Inherits Fathers Dying Wish and Creates an Island of Dreams

Son Inherits Father's Dying Wish and Creates 'an Island of Dreams'

Weekends, as often as not, he circles the sea in his private plane.

Soichiro Fukutake, 59, is president of leading correspondence education firm Benesse Corp. Below, as he flies, are the islands of the Inland Sea.

On the southern tip of one of them, Naoshima island in Shikoku's Kagawa Prefecture, stands Benesse House, the modern art museum and guesthouse designed by architect Tadao Ando and built by Fukutake in 1992.

Most of the tiny island's 3,500 inhabitants are fishermen.

The scenery is beautiful, but residents are aging and the population is declining.

Recently, the island took over a waste treatment facility from neighboring Teshima island.

The facility was built to dispose of illegally dumped industrial waste.

"Naoshima island is Japan in microcosm," says Fukutake.

"The power of modern art, by highlighting regional individuality and regional differences, can bring the countryside back to life."

The museum is a showcase for avant-garde art by Japanese and foreign artists.

Fukutake went on to establish the Naoshima Fukutake Art Museum Foundation, and last year, again using an Ando design, built the Chichu Art Museum.

The entire three-floor structure is subterranean.

"I wanted a building that will last 1,000 years for art that'll last 1,000 years," he explains.
