UKIYOEIn Milan, until 30 May 2004, at Palazzo Reale, the exhibition Ukiyoe. The Floating World. Promoted by the City of Milan, in collaboration with the and the Lombardy Region, curated by Gian Carlo Calza with the contribution of a committee of experts on Japanese art. Six thematic sections illustrate the Floating World, "ukiyoe", through images and representations. Over 500 works: paintings, illustrated books, prints from the leading collections, narrate the transformation, in teh 17th-18th centuries, of Japanese society and culture that took form around the city of Edo, today's Tokyo. The works of importanti artists, including Kitagawa Utamaro, involve the viewer in a world of pleasure and beauty, covering a range of themes: theater, tradition, nature, landscape, the pleasures of urban life, female beauty
