In the 1970s art was involved in a process of getting away from specificity and becoming more open, without boundaries. All the research aimed at a movement that would transcend the limits of tradition, generating an unstoppable flow in all directions. A territory of images and gestures took form, which was enormously dilated by the simultaneous presence of all orientations, from the social to the ecological, performance to architecture, the mental to the physical, without putting a particular accent on one or the other.
Artistic work established a relation with all possible contexts and environmental situations, intervening everywhere. It left any traditions behind in favor of a happening whose central focus was the present. Artists felt free to move, searching only for their own identity.
In a few years manifestations appeared that thrived on the revelation of differing, contrasting entities, from pop icon to elementary structure, cultural communication to conceptual process, territorial transport to decorative reawakening, assuming labels like Pop Art, Minimal Art, Body Art, Conceptual Art, Land Art, Pattern Painting, variable entities of a drive toward absolute mobility.
