I See Music: Rock Poster Show Up Next at Artery, PortlandOn November 14, Artery will open an exhibit called I See Music, a collection of silkscreened rock posters commemorating some of the most influential bands in the past two decades.
The show features concert, album and tour posters for bands like Modest Mouse, Bloc Party, Neko Case, Bright Eyes, Cat Power and more.
Artery's pairing of frames with striking visuals will show how frames can add a simple yet meaningful personal stamp to favorite artwork, especially rock posters.
The I See Music opening will run from 6 pm to 9 pm at Artery, 4114 N. Vancouver Avenue in Portland.
The show ends December 27, 2008.
Artwork for I See Music will feature Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks' free Satyricon show this past March, captured in a silkscreen poster by designer/illustrator Micah Smith.
Also included in the line-up are Todd Slater's Bloc Party posters, Wilco at Fillmore Auditorium by Brian Hardy (2007) and a limited edition Grateful Dead poster by the late Robert Rauschenberg as well as a Robert Crumb Janis Joplin portrait drawing.
Three posters from Artery's Shepard Fairey collection will also be on display; Black Sabbath's 2005 tour poster, Billy Idol's Idolize Yourself 2008 release poster and a rare Modest Mouse Black Glass 0777 poster, first available on a 2000 tour with The Black Heart Procession.
