Spotlight on Robert MapplethorpeThe life of Robert Mapplethorpe, the great and transgressive American photographer who used the direct language of photography to express his constant search for beauty, is currently being celebrated in Turin with an anthological exhibition supervised by Germano Celant.
His images provide an insight into people and objects at their most intimate, with a spontaneity that brings to mind the poses of the subjects in great Renaissance paintings.
The organisers chose a single iGuzzini projector, Le Perroquet (designed by Piano Design), to accentuate the artist's use of severe black and white.
It is a solution which, on the surface, appears to be simple.
The Le Perroquet projector actually contains a highly technological system which, combined with its flexibility and minimal design, means it can be used in a wide variety of spaces and contexts and in a range of different environments extremely easily.
Nothing is more suitable, then, for highlighting the perfection bordering on exasperation which is contained in the 300 pieces immortalised in the Mapplethorpe anthology.
